Solution by Allen Newman <anewman@charlie.usd.edu>
Jereth Kok and I tried long and hard to fix this level so it would run on the Mac the same as any other Dark Forces add-on, but we couldn’t figure out what was wrong. This is the compromise solution, whose price is a larger GOB size and a bit of inconvenience for the player. However, I think you’ll agree it’s worth a little work to visit Jereth’s very large Star Destroyer.
(To play this level, you will need to have copied the entire Dark Forces CD onto your hard disk and applied the NoCD patch. If you’re as serious about Dark Forces as I am, you did this a long time ago.)
The first step to playing KILVADER is to open your Dark Forces data folder, and rename DARK.GOB to something else. Next, open the Cutscenes folder and rename DFBRIEF.LFD to something else too.
Now, put (or copy) the DARK.GOB from the Assassinate Vader folder into your Dark Forces Data folder. Next, put (or copy) KILVADER.LFD into the Cutscenes folder. Finally, open the Cutscenes folder, duplicate KILVADER.LFD, and rename the copy DFBRIEF.LFD -- that’s right, according the DOS .bat file that originally accompanied the level, you need two copies of the same file installed for this thing to work right.
Installation is complete. To play the level, double-click the Dark Forces application icon, just as if you were going to play the original LucasArts levels. Do not double-click on DARK.GOB or any other file.
After playing, remove the custom DARK.GOB and DFBRIEF.LFD, and restore your renamed files to their normal names. You may leave the extra KILVADER.LFD in the Cutscenes folder if you wish, or remove it.
